Laguna Hills, California — September 20, 2025:
Authorities have confirmed that Andre Anthony Matijasevic, age 31, was shot and killed by officers following a multi-agency pursuit involving the Newport Beach Police Department and the Irvine Police Department.
According to law enforcement reports, officers were searching for a vehicle connected to an earlier murder and carjacking investigation. License plate recognition systems alerted police to the vehicle as Matijasevic was driving it through the area.
Officers located the vehicle and allege that Matijasevic fled, leading to a pursuit. After exiting the highway, police deployed spike strips to disable the vehicle. Authorities report that Matijasevic then exited the car and allegedly fired shots at officers. Police returned fire, killing him at the scene near Avenida De La Carlota in Laguna Hills, California.
The case remains under pending investigation, and details regarding the officers involved or the exact sequence of events have not yet been released.
