Phoenix, AZ (May 15, 2018)- According to the local police, a car traveling the wrong way on a Phoenix highway caused a three-car collision. The Monday night wreck killed two and several others received injuries.
State Route 347 was briefly closed around Riggs Road, but according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety it reopened around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
According to the DPS, the wrong-way driver, Karen Ankiewc, 70, and the driver of the other car, Julissa Torres, 26, both died. In Torres’ car, a man and a child received injuries and required hospitalization.
After the initial collision, a third vehicle struck Torres’ car following the initial crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
