Authorities said one person was killed and another was hospitalized following a two vehicle accident Wednesday morning in a construction zone on State Route 18 in Benton County.
Benton County, IN.- One person was killed and another was injured following a rear end accident Wednesday morning in Benton County.
The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on August 12 on westbound State Route 18 at County Road 1200 E.
Authorities said traffic was being directed through a construction zone by an INDOT flagger when the collision occurred.
Kacy J. Cunningham, 43, of Wolcott, was stopped in traffic when her car was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Jacob A. Morris, 39, of Peru.
Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nathan P. Christner, 40, of Wolcott, was found unconscious inside Cunningham’s vehicle following the collision. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Morris declined medical treatment at the scene.
State Route 18 remained closed for more than two hours while a reconstruction team examined the collision and emergency crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
