Police said two people were killed and two others were seriously injured following a two vehicle accident Sunday evening near 7th Avenue and Stapley Drive in Mesa.
Mesa, AZ.- Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured following a two vehicle accident Sunday evening in Mesa.
The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on August 9 near 7th Avenue and Stapley Drive.
Authorities said the collision involved a pickup truck and an SUV.
Police identified the two people killed as 44 year old Idolinda Romero Apolinar and 74 year old Gloria Apolinar Matias. Both victims were occupants of the same vehicle.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a local hospital and later died from their injuries.
Two other adults involved in the collision were hospitalized with serious but non life threatening injuries.
Investigators said impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the accident, although speed may have contributed to the collision.
Stapley Drive has since reopened.
The accident remains under investigation.
