Phoenix, AZ. – A pregnant woman and her child were killed after a traffic crash on Saturday night in Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on June 20, on Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and 19th Avenue.

Police said a vehicle carrying the woman did not stop for a red light and crashed with a second vehicle heading eastbound on Beardsley Road.

The woman who was pregnant was rushed to the hospital where the medical personnel delivered the baby. Both the baby and the mother were later declared dead at the hospital.

The driver of the car carrying the woman sustained minor injuries.

The man driving the second car was not hurt in the collision. He stayed at the scene after the crash.

Police said the male driver who ran through a red light while heading east on Beardsley Road did not show any signs of impairment.

An investigation is underway.
