Apache Junction, AZ. – One person was severely injured after a head-on collision on Friday afternoon in Apache Junction, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The accident occurred a while after 2:00 p.m. on June 5 on U.S. 60 near Ironwood Drive.

Deputies said a dump truck blew its tire and caused the driver to cross the median and crash head-on into an eastbound vehicle.

One person in the passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.

The highway was closed for hours following the collision. The eastbound lanes were reopened at about 6:45 p.m.

The westbound lanes were not blocked after the crash.
