Troopers said the teen was driving his SUV east on SR-70 and was heading to NW Florida Avenue. The SUV drove into the westbound lane to pass a truck, directly into the path of a dump truck heading in the opposite direction. The two vehicles crashed and burst into flames.

DeSoto County, FL. – A 17-year-old teen from Sarasota was killed, three others injured after a traffic collision on Friday morning in Sarasota, DeSoto County.
The accident happened at around 8:45 a.m. on May 22 on east State Road 70 and NW Florida Avenue.
Troopers said the teen was driving his SUV east on SR-70 and was heading to NW Florida Avenue. The SUV drove into the westbound lane to pass a truck, directly into the path of a dump truck heading in the opposite direction. The two vehicles crashed and burst into flames.
A second dump truck traveling behind the first truck attempted to avoid the crash and drove off the roadway and rolled over.
A fourth car, an SUV, struck the teen’s SUV.
The 17-year-old driver was declared dead at the crash site. The other three drivers sustained minor injuries due to the collision.
An investigation is underway.
