Phoenix, AZ. – A 22-year-old man was killed and another severely injured after a traffic collision early Sunday morning in north Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The accident happened a while before 2:00 a.m. on May 17, near 12th Street and Bell Road.

Police said an 18-year-old man was speeding and impaired while driving an SUV westbound when he crashed into a sedan traveling south through the junction.

The two cars were heavily damaged after the crash.

A 22-year-old man was killed in the collision. The 18-year-old man sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital and he is expected to recover.

The junction was closed in all directions and motorists were asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

An investigation is underway.
