Tampa Passenger Killed After Vehicle Hits FDOT-Contracted Truck on I-4 in Mango

Troopers said a19-year-old Lakeland woman driving a Kia Sorento lost control of her car while traveling in the inside lane. The Kia entered the center lane and was struck by a semi-truck operated by a 53-year-old Wesley Chapel man.

Mango, FL. – A Tampa man was killed after a traffic collision early Friday morning in Mango, Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 11:05 p.m. on May 8 on westbound I-4 near the Mango Road exit, just east of Interstate 75.

Troopers said a19-year-old Lakeland woman driving a Kia Sorento lost control of her car while traveling in the inside lane. The Kia entered the center lane and was struck by a semi-truck operated by a 53-year-old Wesley Chapel man.

The two vehicles struck the median and the semi rolled over. Troopers said the two drivers did not sustain injuries in the initial collision.

As troopers investigated the overturned semi-truck, FHP patrol vehicles and FDOT-contracted Walsh trucks were in the closed lane of westbound I-4.

A while before 2:30 a.m. a 23-year-old Tampa man in a Toyota Corolla slammed into one of the parked Walsh trucks. The crash pushed the truck into the neaby Lazy Days RV dealership and it struck two parked RVs.

The Toyota then halted in the roadway. A 23-year-old Tampa man riding as a passenger alighted out of the car and was lying in the roadway with injuries. The passenger was then struck by a Hyundai Santa Cruz operated by a 73-year-old Riverview man.

The passenger was declared dead at the crash site.
