Coquille Teen Killed, Bandon Man Injured in 2-Car Accident on Highway 101 in Coos County

Police said a 78-year-old Bandon man was heading northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 101 in a white Mercedes E400 when he nearly crashed into a Bandon Police Department patrol car and a civilian passenger car.

Coquille Teen Dies After Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 near Milepost 260 in Coos County

Coos County, OR. – An 18-year-old Coquille woman was killed after a head-on collision on Wednesday afternoon in Coos County.

According to the Oregon State Police, the accident occurred a while before 3:00 p.m. on April 15 near Milepost 260 on Highway 101.

Police said a 78-year-old Bandon man was heading northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 101 in a white Mercedes E400 when he nearly crashed into a Bandon Police Department patrol car and a civilian passenger car.

The police car turned and chased the wrong-way driver. The wrong-way driver hit the southbound guardrail, swerved back into the southbound lane before slamming head-on into a southbound blue Mazda3 operated by the 18-year-old woman.

The woman was declared dead at the crash site.

The Mercedes driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Traffic delays were experienced in the area for around three hours to give way to an on-scene investigation.

No additional information concerning this crash was provided.

An investigation is underway.

The Bandon Fire Department, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation and the Bandon Police Department assisted the OSP at the scene.
