Man Killed in Rollover Crash on East Skene Road and South Massbach Road in Jo Daviess County

Deputies said a pickup truck operated by a 18-year-old man of Elizabeth struck a loose gravel on the north side of the roadway before entering a ditch. He then overcorrected and the truck crossed the roadway into the south ditch. The truck then went up an embankment, flew in the air and landed on its tires and rolled several times.

Man Killed After Rollover Accident on East Skene Road and South Massbach Road in Jo Daviess County

Jo Daviess County, IL. – The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly collision that killed a 21-year-old man on Monday afternoon in rural Elizabeth, Jo Daviess County.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred a while before 4:06 p.m. on April 13 on East Skene Road, west of South Massbach Road.

Deputies said a pickup truck operated by a 18-year-old man of Elizabeth struck a loose gravel on the north side of the roadway before entering a ditch. He then overcorrected and the truck crossed the roadway into the south ditch. The truck then went up an embankment, flew in the air and landed on its tires and rolled several times.

A 21-year-old man of Hanover was thrown out of the car before it rested in the ditch. He was declared dead at the crash site.

The pickup driver was taken to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was cited for failing to reduce speed.

An investigation is ongoing.
