Klamath County, OR. – A Portland man was killed after a head-on crash on Sunday afternoon in Klamath County, according to the Oregon State Police.
The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. on April 12, on Highway 97 near milepost 220.
Police said a 48-year-old man of Portland was traveling north in a black Kia Forte when he arrived the scene of an earlier collision involving three vehicles. No one was injured in that crash.
The Kia crossed the center line and drove on the southbound travel lane and crashed into a semi operated by a British Columbia resident. The semi was pulling onto the highway shoulder to avoid a disabled car from the first collision.
The impact caused the Kia to spin back across the northbound lanes before coming to rest against a tree off the highway’s northbound shoulder.
The Kia driver was declared dead at the crash site. The truck driver was not hurt in the accident.
Police closed Highway 97 for around five hours to give way to an on-scene investigation.
