Police said a 45-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Springfield Avenue at West Jefferson Street. The vehicle was halted at the intersection and was waiting to make a right turn onto westbound Jefferson Street.

Joliet, IL. – A bicyclist was severely injured after a traffic collision on Saturday afternoon in Joliet, according to the Joliet Police Department.
The accident occurred a while before 12:30 p.m. on April 4, at West Jefferson Street and Springfield Avenue.
Police said a 45-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Springfield Avenue at West Jefferson Street. The vehicle was halted at the intersection and was waiting to make a right turn onto westbound Jefferson Street.
The driver then initiated the right turn and crashed into a 69-year-old man from Joliet. The man was cycling eastbound on the sidewalk on the south side of West Jefferson Street and had just entered the roadway to cross Springfield Avenue.
The impact of the crash sent the bicyclist out of his bicycle.
The man was rushed to Saint Joseph Medical Center with severe non-life threatening injuries. The Toyota driver was not hurt in the crash.
Police said the traffic signal for Springfield Avenue was believed to be red at the time.
Police closed westbound lanes of West Jefferson Street to give way to an on-scene investigation.
An investigation by the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit is underway.
