3 Killed in Vehicle Accident on I-75 near Mile Marker 154 in Charlotte County
Charlotte County, FL. – Three people were killed including two young children after a traffic collision on Friday evening in Charlotte County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened a while after 6:00 p.m. on March 27 in Charlotte County.
Troopers said a driver was heading southbound at a high rate of speed, swerved off the roadway, crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes slamming into another car. The vehicle split into two halves after the crash impact.
A 25-year-old man from North Fort Myers was declared dead at the crash site. Two children, ages 5 and 6, both from Fort Myers also died.
One of the kids was pronounced dead at the crash site while the other was flown to Tampa General Hospital with critical injuries where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver who crossed the median, a 28-year-old man from New York, was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries.
His vehicle rolled over before coming to a halt on the shoulder.
Troopers said charges are pending.
An investigation is ongoing.
