Melrose, FL. – A 23-year-old man of Putnam County was killed after a traffic collision on Wednesday morning in Melrose, Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred a while after 2:30 a.m. on State Road 26 near Melrose Elementary School.
Troopers said the 23-year-old lost control of his sedan for unknown reasons. The sedan drove off the roadway, struck a sign before crashing into multiple trees. The sedan rolled over on the westbound shoulder of State Road 26.
The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to catch fire trapping the man inside.
The man was killed in the collision.
Authorities closed State Road 26, but it has since reopened.
An investigation is underway.
