Volusia County, FL. – A 61-year-old man was killed after a construction accident on Tuesday in Volusia County, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred on March 17, at State Road 415 and Pioneer Trail.
Deputies said the man was replacing a drill head when the accident happened. The chain wrench of the drill rotated after torque build-up causing the chain to break free and hit the man in the head.
The man was wearing a helmet but the impact dented his hard hat resulting in fatal head injury.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
OSHA was notified concerning the accident.
An investigation is underway.
