Troopers said a 2003 Mazda B3000 pickup truck fled the scene of a collision on Kings Highway and Veterans Boulevard. The Mazda continued driving at high rate of speed on I-75 and exited onto Harbor View Road.

2 Killed Including 12-Year-Old Girl in Accident on I-75 and Harbor View Road in Charlotte County

Charlotte County, FL. – A 25-year-old driver from Lake Placid and a 12-year-old passenger were killed, and another driver was critically hurt on Saturday night in Charlotte County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on Interstate 75 and Veterans Boulevard on February 22nd.

Troopers said a 2003 Mazda B3000 pickup truck fled the scene of a collision on Kings Highway and Veterans Boulevard. The Mazda continued driving at high rate of speed on I-75 and exited onto Harbor View Road.

The truck then crossed the centerline while negotiating a right curve and crashed into a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu heading east on Harbor View Road. The Malibu was operated by a 44-year-old man from Port Charlotte. The man was critically injured in the collision.

A 12-year-old Malibu passenger and the Mazda driver were declared dead at the crash site.

An investigation is underway.
