Troopers said a Kia Forte was heading east on State Road behind a Kia Sedona while a Subaru Ascent was traveling in the opposite direction along the roadway.

Collier County, FL. – Four people were killed following a traffic collision early Thursday morning in Collier County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at around 12:27 a.m. on January 1st on State Road 82, west of Corkscrew Road.
Troopers said a Kia Forte was heading east on State Road behind a Kia Sedona while a Subaru Ascent was traveling in the opposite direction along the roadway. The Kia Forte driver entered the westbound lane of State Road 82 and was attempting to pass the Kia Sedona. The Kia Forte and the Subaru Ascent crashed causing the Kia Forte to rotate and crash into the Kia Sedona.
The Kia Forte driver, a 30-year-old woman from Immokalee, was declared dead at the crash site.
The Subaru driver, a 51-year-old Fort Myers man, and a passenger, a 25-year-old Fort Myers man, were also declared dead at the scene.
Three other Subaru passengers, an 85-year-old Fort Myers woman, a 51-year-old Fort Myers man, and a 25-year-old Fort Myers man sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a local hospital. The 85-year-old woman died at the hospital.
The Kia Sedona driver, a 41-year-old Naples man, was not hurt in the accident.
An investigation is underway.
