1 Killed, Several Injured After Speeding Vehicle Runs Red Light on North Frontage Road in St. Petersburg

Police said a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was heading northbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Street North and crossing North Frontage Road with a green light when a blue Dodge Challenger did not stop at the red light.

St. Petersburg, FL. – One person was killed, several hurt after a traffic collision on Saturday night in St. Petersburg, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The deadly collision occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on December 27, on North Frontage Road and MLK Street North.

Police said a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was heading northbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Street North and crossing North Frontage Road with a green light when a blue Dodge Challenger did not stop at the red light.

The Challenger was traveling in the westbound lanes at a high rate of speed on North Frontage Road and did not stop at the red light crashing into the Outlander. The Challenger female driver was rushed to the hospital where she died.

The other driver and her three passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to a police report, speed and improper usage of seatbelt played a role in the collision.
