Osceola County, FL. – A semi-truck driver was killed after a traffic collision early Wednesday in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The deadly multi-vehicle accident occurred at about 3:15 a.m. December 3, in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 248, south of Osceola Parkway near Kissimmee.
Troopers said the driver of a semi with a double trailer did not notice traffic was slowing ahead of him and he hit the back of another semi-truck. The second semi then crashed into a tractor-trailer in front of it.
The semi that did not slow caught fire after the crash. The driver was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck that was hit from behind, a 38-year-old Orlando man, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital.
The driver of the third semi, a 55-year-old Hollywood man, was not hurt and stayed at the crash site.
Troopers closed the Turnpike for hours before reopening the lanes.
An investigation is underway.
