3 Injured in Sarasota Crash on Interstate 75 near State Road 72

A Miami man driving the semi-truck, his male passenger from Naples, and a woman from Naples who was driving the Kia sustained serious injuries

Sarasota, FL. – Three people were seriously injured in a collision that occurred on Monday morning in Sarasota.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Interstate 75 near the State Road 72 Exit at Mile Marker 203 at around 5:36 a.m.

A semi drifted into the right lane and collided with a Honda operated by a 41-year-old man from North Port.

The semi then veered left and struck a Kia, sending it off the roadway into a wooded median.  The semi overcorrected, causing its trailer to rotate counterclockwise and overturn, spilling gravel across the lanes.

The 56-year-old Miami man driving the semi-truck and his 41-year-old male passenger from Naples sustained serious injuries and were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The 37-year-old woman from Naples who was driving the Kia was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Sarasota County Fire Department personnel assisted at the scene.
