Porter County, IN. – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a pickup truck in Porter County Sunday afternoon.
According to the police, the accident happened around 2 p.m. in the area of CR 600 N and CR 450 E.
An 81-year-old man was driving a pickup truck westbound on CR 600 N and was attempting to pass a male bicyclist when the cyclist began a left-hand turn onto CR 450 and was struck by the truck.
The impact of the collision sent the pickup truck into a ditch off the roadway.
The pickup truck driver attempted to get out of the ditch by backing up, and struck the bicyclist lying in the grass behind the vehicle.
The bicyclist was injured and was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to Christ Advocate in Chicago.
