Sumter County, FL. – A teen driver was killed in a car crash on Thursday night in Sumter County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9 p.m. on Center Grade Road near County Road 471.

The 17-year-old Dade City teen was driving a Chevy Silverado eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the vehicle overturned.

The driver and his passenger, an 18-year-old female from Dade City, were ejected and were taken to the hospital, where the driver later died.

The rear seat passengers, a 1-year-old male and a 2-year-old female, both of Dade City, were also transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
