Phoenix, AZ. – A 15-year-old boy was killed in a pedestrian accident on Friday evening in North Phoenix, according to the police.
The fatal accident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on 19th Avenue near Cactus Road.
Police said a man was driving northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit the 15-year-old, who was standing on the sidewalk.
The boy was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The driver remained at the scene but fled when the police arrived. He was pursued by the officers and was arrested. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers said the driver was possibly impaired and was processed for DUI.
He will be booked on multiple charges once he is released from the hospital.
Police are investigating the accident.
