Lawrence County, IN. – Dr. Mark A. Dayton, 70, has been identified as the bicyclist who died after being struck by a car on Monday afternoon in Lawrence County.

According to police, the accident happened around 1 p.m. at Ind. 37 and Old Ind. 37.

A 26-year-old Mitchell man was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 south on Ind. 37 when he ran a red light at the intersection and struck Dayton was riding west on Old Ind. 37.

Dayton, a cancer treatment specialist at IU Health Hematology & Oncology in Bloomington, was killed in the accident.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
