Reno, NV. – 62-year-old Lorraine Chavez, of San Antonio, Texas, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision that left two children critically injured on Saturday morning in Reno.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident happened on I-580 just south of Moana Lane at around 7 a.m.
A box truck was traveling in the number three lane when it failed to slow down for traffic ahead and hit the rear end of a Hyundai SUV causing it to overturn.
Two juvenile occupants of the SUV were ejected.
The Hyundai then hit another SUV, which then hit a Toyota van and a Toyota sedan.
Chavez was seated in the left rear of the Hyundai and was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
The two children were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai and three other juveniles suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Northern Command Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
