Orange County, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an auto-pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a 16-year-old student Monday morning near Oak Ridge High School in Orange County.

The fatal accident occurred around 8:10 a.m. on April 28 on West Oak Ridge Road near Winegard Road in Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol said a 2012 Dodge Avenger, operated by a 28-year-old Orlando woman, was traveling westbound on Oak Ridge Road when it struck the female student.

Investigators said the girl was crossing the street but was not in a marked crosswalk when she was hit.

The girl, whose name has remains under wraps, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

The Orlando woman was not injured and remained at the scene, according to FHP.

The incident remains under investigation.
