Chasity Stavenhagen Killed, Kevin Kain Critically Injured in Truck Accident in Lee County

Authorities said Stavenhagen was driving a pickup truck on Chicago Road, when for unknown reasons, she drove into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. Her pickup was struck broadside by the semi.

Brooklyn Township, IL. – Chasity Stavenhagen, 16, of Earlville has been killed following a semi-truck accident on Monday afternoon in Brooklyn Township, Lee County, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at around 2:21 p.m. June 9, on Chicago Road and Route 251.

Authorities said Stavenhagen was driving a pickup truck on Chicago Road, when for unknown reasons, she drove into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. Her pickup was struck broadside by the semi.

Stavenhagen was killed in the collision. Her passenger, a 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn, was transported to OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota. He was later flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford where he was listed in critical condition.

The semi driver, a 62-year-old man from Sublette, was not hurt in the collision.

The roadway was closed for several hours following the accident.

An investigation is ongoing.
