2 Injured, Homestead Police Officer Arrested After Crash at U.S 1 and East Palm Drive in Florida City

Florida City, FL. – Two persons were injured while 43-year-old Henry Quintero, a Homestead police officer, was arrested after a hit-and-run collision on Tuesday afternoon in Florida City.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened a while after 3:30 p.m. on September 2, at U.S 1 and East Palm Drive.

Troopers said Quintero was heading westbound on East Palm Drive in a 2021 black Honda CR-V when he ran a red light at U.S 1 and hit a 2022 Ford Bronco causing it to rollover into a 2022 Ford Mustang.

Two persons were injured in the collision.

Quintero halted briefly before he ran away from the junction and crashed into oncoming traffic, he turned east on East Palm Drive and stopped near the Bonita Points Apartments entrance.

Witnesses followed him and identified him as the involved driver.

Quintero refused field sobriety test and a breath-alcohol test although he showed signs of impairment including watery eyes, slurred speech and smell of alcohol.

He was later taken to Jackson West where he declined treatment and blood testing.

He was arrested for fleeing the scene with no severe injury, declining DUI testing and reckless driving.

An investigation is underway.
