1 Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 301 in Alachua County

Troopers said a vehicle was heading north on Southeast U.S. Highway 301 in the left inside lane when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the left rear axle of a truck tractor that was making a left turn onto the road.

1 Dies After DUI Car Accident on Highway 301 near Southeast Hawthorne Road

Hawthorne, FL. – One person was killed after a fatal accident on Thursday morning in Hawthorne, Alachua County.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies, the accident happened in the 5600 block of U.S. Highway 301, near Southeast Hawthorne Road.

Troopers said a vehicle was heading north on Southeast U.S. Highway 301 in the left inside lane when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the left rear axle of a truck tractor that was making a left turn onto the road.

The trailer was being hauled by a second vehicle.

The first car’s driver, a 25-year-old male from St. Pete, died in the collision. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The roadway was reopened at about 1:30 p.m. 

Alachua County Fire Rescue, (ACFR), and Melrose Fire Department officials responded to the crash.

No additional information regarding this crash was provided.

An investigation is ongoing.
