Plaquemine, Louisiana — October 6, 2025: Authorities identified Latrell’ Mikal Ornee Clark, age 27, as the man shot and killed during a struggle with deputies inside the Iberville Parish Courthouse.
According to law enforcement, deputies with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office had brought Clark to the courthouse for questioning in connection with an ongoing sex crimes investigation. During the interaction, Clark allegedly attempted to gain control of a deputy’s firearm. In the ensuing struggle, multiple rounds were fired, striking Clark and two deputies.
Clark was pronounced dead at the scene, and both deputies were transported to a hospital for treatment. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The Louisiana State Police and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting. Officials confirmed that the event occurred inside the courthouse’s secure area and that standard review procedures are underway.
Local and state outlets including WBRZ, The Advocate, WAFB 9, and Unfiltered with Kiran reported that the deputies involved were identified as Charles Riley and Brett Stassi Jr., both of whom are recovering from their injuries.
