Out of a genuine desire to give back and make a difference in the lives of young school-age children in Southern Arizona, Lerner and Rowe hosted two Back to School Giveaways. The first took place in Phoenix on July 21st. The second was on July 24th in the Tucson area. Both events had significant turnouts!
A total of over 2,000 backpacks were given away between both events. But, the giving didn’t stop there! When supplies ran out, the law firm handed out over $7,000 in Target gift cards to make sure that no child left without.
Since the law firm first opened its doors in 2005, the firm’s legal team has actively given back to support disadvantaged youth prior to the beginning of each new school year. This is the second year the firm has hosted their own Back-to-School Giveaway in conjunction with their other outreach donations.
No Skimping on Back to School Supplies
At both Back to School Giveaways elementary students were given a high quality backpack to fill with back to school items that included:
- Spiral notebooks;
- Loose paper;
- Colored pencils;
- Rulers;
- Scissors;
- Glue sticks;
- Crayon;
- Pencil pouches, and more!
Even those that showed up close to the end of the event when most of the supplies were given away didn’t leave empty handed! They received a Target gift card to use towards purchasing their own back to school supplies.
Snacks & Entertainment Provided to Fuel the Fun
Lerner and Rowe knows how to make the most out of a community event. Not only were students and their parents able to pick up a few supplies, they were also treated to a variety of light snacks to enjoy as they walked from each supply station.
Those in Phoenix enjoyed Mr. Softies ice cream, popcorn, cotton candy and hot dogs; while those in Tucson were offered pizza, popcorn and freshly spun cotton candy.
Radio stations were also at each giveaway providing entertainment and the perfect music mix for the occasional dance-off!
Knowledge Powers the Futures
When asked why Lerner and Rowe does so much to give back and support local youth Kevin Rowe shared the following, ”We do what we do and encourage others to do the same so that disadvantaged youth have the basic tools they need to succeed. It’s hard enough for some to focus on following directions at school. But it’s even harder when they don’t have paper or something to write with and complete projects. By giving them basic school supplies they can focus more on learning and less on what they are missing.”
