Phoenix, AZ – One person was killed in a car accident in Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The incident took place on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway shortly before 2 a.m.
A black car traveling in the right emergency shoulder was involved in a sideswipe collision with a red vehicle.
The black vehicle then lost control and slammed into the median barrier wall.
The driver was taken to a hospital, where the victim was pronounced deceased.
The accident led to the temporary closure of the freeway at Vee Quiva Way as authorities investigated the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
