Fountain Hills, Arizona (March 14, 2018) – Authorities released the names of a Canadian couple and an Iowa woman struck and killed by a sports utility vehicle in Fountain Hill. Robert Bonta, 72, and wife Karen, 71, died at the site of the accident because of life-threatening injuries. Same as Patti Doornbos, 60, of Wever, Iowa.
The incident took place at the intersection of Saguaro Boulevard and Palisades Boulevard on Tuesday, March 13th. Doornbos’ 60-year-old husband, Ronald Doornbos, sustained a head injury and remains hospitalized due to his critical condition even after multiple surgeries.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office identified 27-year-old Alex Bradshaw as the at-fault driver. Bradshaw, while traveling north on Sanguaro Boulevard, veered off the road and hit the two couples. MCSO spokesperson confirmed that Bradshaw stayed at the scene of the crash rather than flee the accident scene.
Furthermore, authorities stated that the Canadian couple’s hometown wasn’t immediately available. The crash remains under investigation.
