Avondale, AZ – Two teens were after a police chase ended in a fiery solo-car accident in Avondale early Saturday morning, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened on June 28 at the intersection of Dysart and Buckeye Roads.

According to Phoenix police, the incident started at around 1:30 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Sergio Lara-Garcia, failed to stop and sped away. Lara-Garcia got onto I-10 with the police following the car with their helicopter.

When Garcia entered the intersection, he lost control while passing over the railroad tracks and slammed into a small market. After the impact, the vehicle burst into flames, and the fire spread to the market. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it destroyed the entire building.

Garcia and his passenger, identified as 16-year-old Julian Lugo-Estrada, were transported to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The police are investigating the accident.
