Motorcyclist Hurt in Accident on Interstate 5 in Salem

Authorities said a motorcyclist was injured after a motorcycle accident Tuesday on Interstate 5 in Salem.

Salem, OR.- A motorcyclist was injured following an accident Tuesday in Salem.

The accident occurred on July 14 on southbound Interstate 5, approximately three miles north of the junction with Highway 22.

According to reports, the rider was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle at speeds exceeding 100 mph while weaving through traffic. Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling about 104 mph before it struck the rear of a silver Honda.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Honda was not injured.

Two southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were temporarily closed while emergency crews responded to the scene, causing traffic delays for several miles.

Authorities later cited the motorcyclist on allegations of reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

The accident remains under investigation.
