Troopers said two people died following a multi vehicle accident involving two motorcycles and a pickup truck Friday night on US 41 near 24th Avenue South in Palm River-Clair Mel.
Palm River-Clair Mel, FL.- Two people were killed following an accident involving two motorcycles and a pickup truck Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on August 28 on US 41 near 24th Avenue South.
Troopers said a 44 year old Ruskin man was driving a Chevrolet Colorado west on 24th Avenue South when he attempted to make a left turn at the intersection.
According to investigators, the pickup entered the path of a northbound Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 31 year old Tampa man.
An 18 year old Clearwater woman was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle when it collided with the turning pickup truck.
A second Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by a 20 year old Tampa man, was traveling north behind the first motorcycle.
Troopers said the second rider swerved in an attempt to avoid the pickup truck and overturned.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported both motorcycle riders, the 18 year old passenger, and the pickup truck driver to a local hospital for treatment.
The 31 year old motorcycle driver and his 18 year old passenger later died from their injuries.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the conditions of the second motorcyclist or pickup truck driver.
The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
