Man Critically Hurt in Duplex Fire on Spicewood Drive in Killeen

Officials said one man was critically injured following a duplex fire Wednesday evening in the 2200 block of Spicewood Drive in Killeen.

Killeen, TX.- One man was critically injured after a duplex fire Wednesday evening in Killeen, according to the City of Killeen.

The fire was reported at approximately 5:56 p.m. on July 15 in the 2200 block of Spicewood Drive after the Bell County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire with possible occupants trapped inside.

Officials said a General Alarm response brought 32 emergency personnel to the scene.

The first fire unit arrived within five minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the duplex. Firefighters immediately began an interior fire attack while conducting search and rescue operations inside the residence.

One man was rescued from the duplex and transported by Killeen Fire Department EMS to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in critical condition.

A cat was also found dead inside the home.

Officials said the fire was brought under control about 20 minutes after the first fire unit arrived. Firefighters remained at the scene to extinguish hot spots and assist investigators with determining the cause of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
