Troopers said a 48 year old Vero Beach man was killed after his e-bike was struck by a pickup truck Sunday night near Eighth Street and 14th Avenue in Indian River County.
Indian River County, FL.- An e-bike rider was killed following a hit and run accident Sunday night in Indian River County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on August 9 near Eighth Street and 14th Avenue.
Troopers said the 48 year old man was riding his e-bike westbound in the westbound lane of Eighth Street when a pickup truck approached from behind.
Investigators said the pickup moved southwest and partially entered the eastbound lane before the right side of the truck struck the e-bike.
The impact threw the rider onto the roadway, where he came to rest in the eastbound lane.
The man was airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities said the pickup driver did not remain at the scene or contact law enforcement following the collision.
The accident remains under investigation.
