Effingham County, IL – The Effingham County Coroner has identified the driver who was killed in a head-on crash on U.S. Route 40 Sunday evening.

The deadly crash happened at about 4:16 p.m. on June 15 on US-40 at 1075th Street, just west of Country Club Road.

Authorities said a mother, with her three children as passengers, was driving westbound on US-40 when she collided head-on with another vehicle operated by Harland J. Neville, 58 of Altamont.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear why Harland Neville crossed into the westbound lanes leading to the crash.

Neville was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman operating the other vehicle was critically injured in the crash.

Her three children were also injured but have since been released from the hospital.
