Man Killed, Truck Driver Hurt in Wrong-Way Accident on State Road 33 in Groveland

Troopers said a 22 year old Groveland man was killed and a tractor trailer driver was injured following a wrong way head on accident Wednesday morning on State Road 33.

Groveland, FL.- One person was killed and another was injured following a wrong way accident Wednesday morning on State Road 33, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on September 9 north of Edgewood Boys Ranch Road.

Troopers said a 22 year old Groveland man was driving south in the northbound lanes of State Road 33 when his vehicle entered the path of a northbound tractor trailer.

The truck was driven by a 47 year old man from Riverview.

According to authorities, the truck driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the approaching vehicle but was unable to prevent a head on collision.

The impact caused the tractor trailer to overturn.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the 22 year old driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity pending notification procedures.

The tractor trailer driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to South Lake Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not said what caused the 22 year old driver to travel south in the northbound lanes.

The fatal accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
