Pedestrian Hurt in Accident at Washington Street and Jackson Street in Greencastle

Police said a pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Washington Street and Jackson Street in Greencastle.

Greencastle, IN.- A pedestrian was injured following an accident Tuesday afternoon in Greencastle.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. on July 21 at the intersection of Washington Street and Jackson Street.

Police responded after receiving reports of a person struck by a vehicle.

Investigators said Maria Stierwalt of Danville was walking across Jackson Street from the east with another pedestrian when a southbound 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer turning from Washington Street struck her.

The driver, identified as Tamara Coghill of Greencastle, told investigators she did not see the pedestrians in the crosswalk. Authorities said she remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Stierwalt was transported to a local hospital by Putnam County EMS. She was alert when taken from the scene, but the extent of her injuries has not been released.

Jackson Street between Washington Street and Walnut Street was temporarily closed while emergency crews responded to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
