Authorities said one driver was hospitalized after two semi trucks collided and one caught fire Saturday morning on Interstate 70 near Effingham.
Effingham, IL.- One driver was injured following a fiery accident involving two semi trucks Saturday morning on Interstate 70, according to Effingham Fire Chief Brant Yochum.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on August 29 on westbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 90.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found one of the semi trucks engulfed in flames.
Debris and cargo from the collision covered both westbound lanes of the interstate.
Firefighters used water and foam to extinguish the burning semi truck.
The collision also caused diesel fuel and other vehicle fluids to spill onto the roadway. Authorities said no hazardous cargo was involved.
One of the semi truck drivers suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The second driver was evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene and declined transportation to a hospital.
Both westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were initially closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze, crews cleared debris, and authorities investigated the collision.
One westbound lane reopened by midday.
Illinois State Police continues investigating the cause of the accident.
