Man Killed in Rear-End Van Accident on Interstate 75 in Collier County

Troopers said a 62 year old man was killed after the van he was driving rear ended another vehicle Tuesday on Interstate 75 in Collier County.

Collier County, FL.- A 62 year old man was killed following a two vehicle accident Tuesday on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on August 25 on northbound Interstate 75 near mile marker 111, approximately 200 feet north of the Immokalee Road overpass.

Troopers said a Mercedes van and a Chevrolet Express van were traveling north in the center lane of the interstate.

The Mercedes was traveling ahead of the Chevrolet when traffic began to stop.

According to investigators, the 28 year old driver of the Mercedes stopped for traffic.

The 62 year old driver of the Chevrolet failed to slow down and crashed into the rear of the Mercedes van.

The Chevrolet driver suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the man later died from his injuries.

The 28 year old driver of the Mercedes was not injured in the accident.

Additional information about the identities of the two drivers has not been released.

The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
