Officials said a blue Chevrolet operated by Stavenhagen was on westbound Chicago Road at the stop-sign junction with Rt. 251 while at the same time a semi-tractor hauling grain was heading northbound on Rt. 251 and heading towards the intersection with Chicago Road.
Compton, IL. – 16-year-old Chasity J. Stavenhagen from Earlville and 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn have been identified as the two persons killed in a semi-truck collision last week Monday in rural Lee County, just north of Compton.
The accident occurred at 2:21 p.m. June 9, at the Rt. 251 and Chicago Road intersection, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and EMS from the Paw Paw Fire Department arrived at the scene.
Officials said a blue Chevrolet operated by Stavenhagen was on westbound Chicago Road at the stop-sign junction with Rt. 251 while at the same time a semi-tractor hauling grain was heading northbound on Rt. 251 and heading towards the intersection with Chicago Road.
The Chevrolet pulled in front of the trailer and was hit broadside, T-boned at the intersection.
Stavenhagen was declared dead at the scene. His passenger, Kain was transported to OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota. He was then flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The semi driver, a 62-year-old male from Sublette, was not hurt and was released from the accident location.
The roadway was blocked for several hours to give way to investigations.
The units who responded to the scene include, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Lee County Coroner’s Office, Paw Paw Fire and EMS, and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
An investigation is ongoing.
