Authorities said eight people were hospitalized following an apparent house explosion and fire early Wednesday morning on Bloomington’s far west side.
Bloomington, IL.- Eight people were injured following an apparent explosion and fire that destroyed a home early Wednesday morning in Bloomington.
The explosion occurred shortly before midnight on August 26 at a residence along Old Peoria Court, just east of Rivian Motorway and near an OSF PromptCare.
Emergency crews responded to the area and found the home heavily damaged by the explosion and resulting fire.
The house was destroyed in the incident.
Danvers Fire Chief Glenn Rosecrans said firefighters worked for several hours to prevent the flames from spreading to two neighboring homes.
A neighboring house to the west sustained damage that was largely limited to its garage.
Eight people were transported to local hospitals for treatment following the explosion.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the severity of their injuries or their current conditions. No fatalities were reported at the scene.
The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion and fire.
Nicor crews also responded to the property. Gas service was shut off while crews investigated an unusual flame that remained visible from the rubble Wednesday morning.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
