Troopers said a 37 year old Orlando man was killed following a two vehicle hit and run accident Tuesday evening at Clarcona Road and Gilliam Road in Apopka.
Apopka, FL.- A 37 year old man was killed following a two vehicle accident Tuesday evening in Apopka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on August 18 at the intersection of Clarcona Road and Gilliam Road.
Troopers said a 46 year old Orlando man was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Clarcona Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto Gilliam Road.
Investigators said the Tahoe collided with the front of a northbound 1999 Honda Civic driven by the 37 year old Orlando man.
The driver of the Honda Civic suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told investigators that the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe left the scene on foot following the collision.
With assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, troopers located and detained the driver approximately one mile from the accident scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the Tahoe driver as 46 year old Jason Salustro of Orlando.
Authorities said Salustro was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He was booked into the Orange County Jail.
The accident remains under investigation.
