4 Injured in 3-Car Accident on State Road in Okaloosa County

4 Sustain Injuries After Okaloosa County Accident on State Road 20 at Bay Drive

Okaloosa County, FL. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle accident that injured four people on Wednesday morning in Okaloosa County. 

The crash occurred on State Road 20 at Bay Drive at around 7:35 a.m. 

According to a FHP report, an SUV driven by a 63-year-old man from Niceville, Florida was heading east in the inside lane of State Road 20 and approaching the Bay Drive intersection. At the same time, an SUV operated by a 73-year-old man, also from Niceville, had halted in the eastbound inside lane of State Road at the intersection of Bay Drive.

The first SUV didn’t stop in time and it crashed into the second SUV’S rear pushing it into a third vehicle, a pickup stopped in the left turn lane of the westbound lanes.

The driver who caused the crash continued driving east on State Road 20 until an on-duty Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy forced the vehicle off the road. The driver reportedly told the deputy that he was unable to stop his car before the collision.

The pickup driver, a 58-year-old man from Defuniak Springs, Florida, suffered minor injuries due to the collision.

The driver of the SUV that caused the collision sustained minor injuries while his female passenger sustained severe injuries. The 73-year-old SUV driver sustained severe injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
