Yakima, WA. – A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Yakima early Thursday morning.

According to the Yakima Police Department, the accident happened around 2:54 a.m. at the intersection of Nob Hill Boulevard and 23rd Avenue.

A 23-year-old man was reportedly crossing from a parking lot toward the north sidewalk when he was struck by a 2014 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 39-year-old Yakima resident.

The pedestrian was initially taken to MultiCare Memorial Hospital in Yakima before being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested for vehicular assault for driving while impaired.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
