1 Injured in Safford Truck Accident on U.S. Hwy 70

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on July 2, in the 1200 block of E. U.S. Highway 70.

Safford, AZ – One person was injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident in eastern Safford, according to the authorities.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on July 2, in the 1200 block of E. U.S. Highway 70.

Authorities said a white Ford heavy-duty commercial Empire Service truck was traveling westbound on the highway while a blue Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was traveling eastbound.

The Chevrolet crossed into the westbound lane, causing the driver of the service truck to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision. The Chevrolet ended up rear-ending the driver’s side of the service vehicle.

The service vehicle overturned after the collision.

The driver of the Chevrolet had to be extricated and was taken to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. Her condition was not disclosed. She was being investigated for possible DUI charges.

The driver of the service truck managed to exit the vehicle and was uninjured in the accident.

The Safford Police Department is investigating the accident.
